Diagnosis of Shoulder Separation

When shoulder separation happens, it is difficult to identify whether the case is mild or serious. Infact, people fail, to recognize the actual problem and associate it with other similar problems like shoulder dislocation or fracture of any shoulder bone. The pain, at times is so intense that they consider it to be necessarily a case of broken bones. When the pain is not too much, they consider it to be a simple case of sprain and ignore it. They try to treat it in their own ways like massages, application of ointments and cold or warm sponging until they feel they are absolutely not able to move the shoulder. Therefore, as soon as one meets such an accident, he should be taken to the doctor for diagnosis of shoulder separation.

Diagnosis of shoulder separation is achieved by means of studying the symptoms being experienced by the person. He may be having pain especially in the top shoulder area. The most indicative of all the symptoms is that the person fails in making shoulder moves or is able to make moves to a very limited extent. In severe cases, the whole of arm area would get numb and cold. Even the fingers get numb. All the cases, major or minor, need x-ray scan test for diagnosis.

If the case is mild, you may try to heal it through application of ice or have ibuprofen. The bruises may go through this only and so the injury becomes even milder enough not to cause further problems or complications. But even after sometime, you find that you still are not able to make enough movements, you should consider it to be a major shoulder issue and seek doctor’s help. Diagnosis of shoulder separation, cases where joint or muscle injuries are expected, is done by means of x-rays, ultrasound tests or through magnetic resonance imaging test. During the x-ray test, your doctor may ask you to hold some weight and then would see if any gap due to separation is present in the image.
